Intermittent showers pound city as PMD forecast more rains

Photo: Twitter/ @Shahery47341188 KARACHI: As the port city continues to receive intermittent moderate to heavy showers since yesterday (Wednesday), Sardar Sarfaraz, Chief Meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast more rains coupled with thunderstorms in Karachi today under the influence of the season's fourth monsoon spell. Talking to Geo News , the chief meteorologist predicted that the new spell of intermittent rains is expected to continue till night. He maintained that under the influence of the weather system, most parts of the province are expected to receive rains. Intermittent rains are expected to continue in Nawabshah, Larkana, Jacobabad and Dadu till August 20, he added. “Heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi,” warned Sardar Sarfaraz. Sindh to receive new spell of rain from tomorrow, says PMD

Between August 6 and 9 some areas of Karachi could receive heavy rain. Sindh, especially Karachi, is likely to receive "above normal rain" in the coming days as a new monsoon system is likely to enter Pakistan, Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast on Thursday. According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, Sindh could be affected by a monsoon system from tomorrow. Sindh, especially Karachi, may receive heavy rainfall as a result of the new system, he said. "There are chances that Karachi will see intense showers between August 6 and 9," he said. According to the forecast, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Umarkot, and Tharparkar, are also expected to receive heavy rains. On August 11, rain is expected to return to Karachi and the system may continue to impact the weather till August 15

Above normal rainfall expected in August, warns PMD

In its monthly outlook for the next month, the Met Office said, “Currently, La-Niña condition is prevailing and is likely to continue with weak intensity during August 2022, while the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) condition is expected to remain in a negative state, with increasing intensity towards the end of the forecast month.” The PMD said that a tendency for above-normal precipitation is predicted over most parts of the country.
