High flood to hit Kotri Barrage today, warns official

Photo: Flood Forecasting Division    KARACHI: After causing widespread devastations and fatalities in different areas of Sindh, Punjab and other parts of the country, a high flood of 560,000 cusecs will pass through Kotri Barrage today, said Sukkur Barrage control room in-charge.  Sukkur Barrage was in high flood as the reservoir received flows of 600,000 cusecs of water from Taunsa Barrage, said the official. He maintained that 29,000 cusecs of water has been added to the reservoir during the past 24 hours.  In view of the expected flood, all the canals originating from the barrage have been closed for an unidentified period, he added. A flow of 559,998 cusecs was recorded upstream, while the downstream flow was 559,998 cusecs, said the official. The high flood was heading towards Kotri Barrage, he added. PEMRA warns TV channels to refrain from airing content against state institutions

Photo: file       ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Tuesday warned all television channels to refrain from airing content against state institutions. The electronic media regulator directed the TV channels to avoid spreading propaganda, misinformation and disinformation against the institutions. According to PEMRA, the misinformation and disinformation spread by the news, programme anchors, guests or analysts cast aspersions against the institutions. The statement issued by PEMRA said that the "airing of such content is in violation of the directives issued by the authority, provisions of PEMRA Electronic Media (programmes and advertisements) Code of Conduct 2015 and the principles laid down by the Superior Courts." “… all satellite TV channel licensees are hereby directed to follow the principles laid down in the Constitution as well as the judgement

Sheikh Rasheed warns govt against arresting Imran Khan

Former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Awami Muslim League chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has once again warned the government that attempts to arrest Imran Khan or break the PTI would trigger bloody politics in the country. Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Sheikh Rasheed said that the security of the country is more important than politics and power, adding that the instability in Afghanistan will also affect peace in Pakistan. “Extortion and suicide attacks have started in the country.” The statement from the former federal minister came after the government filed references against the PTI chairman in prohibited funding and Toshakhana cases. The Federal Investigation Agency has also launched a probe into the illegal funding and has summoned senior PTI leaders to appear before it. Above normal rainfall expected in August, warns PMD

In its monthly outlook for the next month, the Met Office said, “Currently, La-Niña condition is prevailing and is likely to continue with weak intensity during August 2022, while the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) condition is expected to remain in a negative state, with increasing intensity towards the end of the forecast month.” The PMD said that a tendency for above-normal precipitation is predicted over most parts of the country. Addressing a meeting at his office, Najam Ahmad Shah said that strict action would be taken against those who steal water allocated for the people of Karachi and Hyderabad. In order to address the water shortage in Karachi and Hyderabad, the elements involved in creating hurdles in water supply will be shown no mercy, he vowed.
