IHC CJ questions whether Imran Khan will risk everything for a 'Game of Thrones'

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah's remarks came during a hearing against the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority's (PEMRA) order prohibiting television channels from airing Khan's speeches live. At the last hearing, the IHC CJ had suspended the order till September 5 and observed that the regulatory authority "does not have the authority" to issue such orders. Barrister Ali Zafar represented Khan during today's hearing and a representative of PEMRA was also present to apprise the court of the regulator's stance. IHC takes up contempt case against Imran Khan today

The PTI chairman last week staged a rally in solidarity with his Chief of Staff Shahbaz Gill in the capital and warned that he would “not spare” IG  Islamabad Police and the DIG, vowing to file cases against them for subjecting Gill to alleged inhuman torture. A larger bench of the Islamabad High Court has been constituted to hear an appeal of the PTI against the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the prohibited funding case. A three-member larger bench has been formed under the chairmanship of acting chief justice of the IHC, Justice Aamer Farooq, and will consist of Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Babar Sattar. Islamabad Advocate-General Jahangir Jadoon, on August 13, had moved the IHC seeking its order to declare the decision taken by the district and sessions court null and void while extending the physical remand of Shahbaz Gill, a close aide of PTI Chairperson Imran Khan. IHC issues notices on PTI’s petition against acceptance of resignations in ‘piecemeal’

Islamabad High Court building. — IHC website ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to the National Assembly Speaker, secretary and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition filed by the PTI against the acceptance of resignations of its Members National Assembly (MNAs) in ‘piecemeal’. IHC acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition filed by the PTI, seeking direction to the ECP to denotify the party’s all 123 MNAs and declare the seats as vacant. During the course of the proceedings, the court directed that the representatives of the NA secretary appear before it along with the relevant record at the next hearing.
