Talking to Geo News , the chief meteorologist predicted that the new spell of intermittent rains is expected to continue till night. He maintained that under the influence of the weather system, most parts of the province are expected to receive rains. Intermittent rains are expected to continue in Nawabshah, Larkana, Jacobabad and Dadu till August 20, he added. “Heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi,” warned Sardar Sarfaraz. Around 40 people, including a couple riding a motorcycle, were trapped on the Korangi Causeway which was heavily flooded after the downpour on Friday, and swept away by the rainwater, The News reported. Upon receiving the information, rescuers from the Edhi Foundation started an operation to save the stranded people. The metropolis is likely to receive heavy downpour today. As per the Met department, the current spell of rain will continue till August 14 and it will rain up to 150 millimeters during this four to five-day-long spell. Later, another monsoon system will affect Sindh from August 17 or 18, the PMD said. In its weather forecast issued on August 8, the Met department had highlighted that heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi from August 11 to 13. He maintained that the low-pressure system penetrating in central and southern parts of the country has intensified into a depression and is likely to generate torrential rains in the port city during the forecast period. Jawad Memon noted that the rain-bearing system is heading towards Sindh. “Another low-pressure system is prevailing over Gujrat and a link is being established between the two systems,” he added. KARACHI: Four people, including a father-daughter duo, were electrocuted, while four others drowned due to urban flooding in Karachi on Monday as heavy rains continue to pound the city. One of the tragic incidents took place at a residential apartments' premises on Al-Falah Road in Lyari's Bihar Colony area when a man and his daughter were electrocuted. The rescue teams rushed to the site of the incident and shifted the victims to Civil Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
